“In Valparaiso – Don’t miss this tip-based walking tour” (March 2014)
In February 2012, we spent four days in Valparaiso. By chance, we got to know about this tip-based sightseeing tour, which we then undertook and which we highly recommend. We were told that at 10 or 3 pm every day you meet on Plaza Sotomayor your guide without any appointment or booking. So we took the chance and we actually met our tour guide, Wally, at one sunny day. We couldn’t miss him in his red-striped T-shirt. Eventually, we were a group of about 12. Wally gave an excellent 3-4 hour walking tour of his beloved and colorful city in excellent English. He showed us some very special places in Valparaiso, and we even took elevators and had a ride on a trolley. This tour can only be highly recommended.Don’t miss it. It was one our highlights of our South american tour.”
City tours of Valparaiso often include the open air museum on the Cerro Bellavista home to Pablo Neruda’s House La Sebastiana. The murals were completed in the early 90’s in the mexican muralism school of art, adding a garish touch to the hill. Throughout the years a younger generation of artists such as Inti, the internationally renowned street artist have converted nearly all the neighborhoods of Valparaiso into museums.
