Fires Strike Valparaiso Chile

Fires Strike Valparaiso Chile

Valparaiso Panoramic Over Bay

The disastrous fires that crippled Valparaiso, Chile over the weekend have triggered visitors from around the world to reach out to us and express their sadness upon seeing the impact of the fire on the city. As of the morning of April 15th the fires that struck multiple cerros over the weekend seems to be under control, as the long and arduous reconstruction begins
A common question is what can I do to help.
If you are abroad and want to donate to the recovery process see this article for ways to send financial help to the volunteers in the city via The Red Cross.
If you are in Chile, visit Valparaiso. Whether you go to volunteer and pick up trash, or go and cook in a campsite, Valparaiso can use your help. The touristy side of city, the old port, the famous hills called Cerro Alegre and Cerro Concepcion have been largely untouched. Hostels, restaurants, hotels and tours are mainly functioning without changes. Besides being a port city, Valparaiso is an important tourism destination so there are a number of tourism associations, like www.hhyr.cl and www.disfrutavalparaiso.cl, that are working to make visitors feel welcome in the UNESCO world heritage city and at the very same time dedicating their time and resources to lift our city’s inhabitants back up.
