Did you know that Chilean beer was born in Valparaíso? The Irish immigrant Andrés Blest founded the first national brewery in 1825 near what is now the Plaza Aníbal Pinto and brings with it the classic brewing recipes of the old continent that Casa Cervecera Altamira seeks to rescue from oblivion through all its varieties.
Now it is a brew pub where you can drink beer that is made in the same place, as in a lot of bars in Europe. But what’s really going to steal your attention is the menu of the restaurant: Each dish comes with a suggestion of pairing and if there are still doubts the waiters know perfectly the characteristics of each brew.
- Hamburgers – Fish and Seafood Snacks
- Tapas bars – Tex-mex
- Vegan – Vegetarian
“Great place to wind down after a long day’s sightseeing”
In addition to the restaurant, the place serves as a beer museum. So, regardless of whether you are hungry or not, I recommend you to pass by to soak up the national chilean history. Taste the flavor of yesteryear, immerse yourself in the past, get to know the history, the original recipe and its production process.. and try as many as you can.
In the brewery Altamira you can dive into the 200 years old history again.
So head down to Elías 126, Valparaíso, Región de Valparaíso and discover the magic behind the Altamira beers… We dare you not to love it!
